Our Adults-Only Group Getaway to Punta Cana

A Week at Secrets Royal Beach with Friends

There’s just something special about an adults-only getaway — especially when it’s with your favorite people.

This year, our friend group headed to Punta Cana for a sunshine-filled escape, and we stayed at Secrets Royal Beach. Kirk and I arrived one day early to check out the resort and enjoy a little alone time before the rest of the crew joined us — and honestly, I highly recommend doing this if you can.

✈️ Arrival Day: Smooth & Stress-Free

We landed in Punta Cana, and I have to say — the airport experience was easy and quick. From landing to being on our transfer took less than 30 minutes, which was such a great start to the trip.

We had a private transfer from the airport to the resort, which made everything feel even more relaxed. No waiting, no extra stops — straight to vacation mode.

When we arrived at Secrets Royal Beach, our room was already ready. We dropped off our bags and immediately headed out to find a quick snack and start exploring.

🌴 First Impressions of the Resort

Like most all-inclusive resorts, it takes a little time on arrival day to get your bearings — figuring out where everything is located, what restaurants are where, and how far things are from your room.

One thing I had to locate right away?
👉 The gym.

Do you work out on vacation?

I try to — mostly just to keep my routine and get my steps in. The gym here was a bit on the smaller side, but it worked well. I never had trouble getting a treadmill, and I did use the weight machines one day. That said… I don’t love when people are waiting on me, so I decided this trip would be mostly walking, steps, and giving myself a break from lifting.

Vacation balance. 😊

🍽️ Night One: Bluewater Grill

For our first night, we headed to Bluewater Grill for dinner. It was good and a nice, relaxed way to start the trip.

Since we had woken up at 1:30am for travel day and had a long day getting there, we were completely exhausted — so after dinner, we headed straight to bed.

And let me tell you…
That first night of sleep was amazing.

☀️ Day Two: Our Favorite Routine

When it’s just the two of us, Kirk and I fall into a pretty good vacation routine.

  • I head to the gym

  • He goes to find pool chairs

  • Then we meet for breakfast

And this breakfast buffet?
Hands down the best buffet I’ve had at any all-inclusive resort.

The selection was incredible — and they even had gluten-free options, which I really appreciated. I definitely enjoyed my fair share of crepes that week!

We spent most of the day by the pool waiting for our friends to arrive. Our pool waitress, Rosana, was absolutely amazing — one of those people who truly makes your vacation even better.

We grabbed lunch at the buffet, and not long after… our friends arrived! 🎉

🍹 First Night as a Group

That evening, our full group of 14 headed to El Patio for dinner — and this ended up being my favorite restaurant of the entire trip. The food, the drinks, the atmosphere — all so good.

One thing I really want to mention about this resort is the entertainment. They did such a great job every night — lots of fun themes, impressive performers, and even cool props.

After the shows, there was:

  • A DJ and dancing in the main common area

  • A small casino

  • A pub

There was always something going on, which made evenings really fun for a group trip.

🌊 Pool Days, Beach Time & Group Fun

Most days were spent exactly how a Punta Cana vacation should be:

  • By the pool

  • On the beach

  • Or in the water

We joined in on paddleboard yoga and water aerobics, which were both so fun and something different.

Many afternoons, the resort offered poolside food to match the daily theme — which was a fun touch and perfect for grazing without leaving your chairs.

With a large group, we made sure someone went out early each morning to grab chairs so we could all hang out together.

One thing I always tell clients traveling in groups:
👉 Flexibility is key.

Everyone comes and goes throughout the day, but we always regrouped for dinner — and that worked perfectly for us.

🍷 More Dining Highlights

Throughout the week we enjoyed:

  • Bordeaux for dinner one night

  • Another visit to Bluewater Grill

  • And of course, back to El Patio again

Each restaurant offered something different, and it was easy to accommodate a larger group.

🏈 A Special IU Moment

We happened to be at the resort during the National Championship IU game, and of course — we had to represent.

We claimed our spots in the pub and got to cheer on our Hoosiers together, which made the trip even more memorable.

🌅 Nights Full of Memories

Each night ended the same way:

  • Music

  • Dancing

  • Laughing

  • And making memories we’ll talk about for years

There’s something really special about traveling with friends — especially when life is busy at home and time together is rare.

⭐ Final Thoughts on Secrets Royal Beach

We truly enjoyed Secrets Royal Beach, especially:

  • The large main pool with fun energy

  • The quiet pool for those who prefer something more relaxed

  • The layout that works well for groups

  • The entertainment and nightly activities

I highly recommend this resort for large group travel, couples trips, or friends looking for an adults-only getaway with both relaxation and fun.

This trip was everything we needed — sunshine, connection, laughter, and time together. And it’s a great reminder of why I love helping others plan trips like this… because these are the moments that matter most.

If you’re dreaming of your own adults-only escape — whether it’s with friends, as a couple, or even a group getaway — I’d love to help you plan it.
