Gift Cards for your kids!

Heading on vacation with kids who want it all???

Let me tell you what we started with our girls and it works wonderfully!

If we are heading to Disney or Universal I go ahead and buy a gift card for both of my girls. I use a Sharpie and write their name on the card. We tell them how much money they have to spend during the trip on souvenirs. This gives them a budget.

It was so interesting the first time we did this. The girl’s personalities really came out. My younger daughter, Hadley, was quick to start spending! She did not like that she had to pay tax, but this led to a good conversation for an 8-year-old to learn! Hadley bought the things she wanted when she saw them and did not have much money left for the last few days of the trip.

My older daughter, Kaylin, was a little more reserved and waited until the last day to buy the things she had her eye on all week. Kaylin wanted to make sure she did not spend her money and decide she wanted something else, which was very smart.

Hadley is a spender and Kaylin is our saver!

Kaylin came home with leftover money for the next trip and Hadley was begging on the last day for the $10 she needed to cover the last thing she HAD TO HAVE.

On the last trip we did this they both did a better job of looking around and buying things they really wanted and I think Hadley had $3 left.

Lessons are learned and it keeps them on a budget and you do not have to keep saying no to alllll the things they need so bad!!!
